Program Highlights in 2008

Institutional Development Grants

Two Institutional Development Grants were awarded in 2008 to the National University of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and the Museum of Anthropology at the National University of Córdoba, in Córdoba, Argentina.

International Symposia and Workshops

Two International Symposia -- "Working Memory and the Evolution of Modern Thinking" and "Corporate Lives: New Perspectives on the Social Life of the Corporate Form" -- were held during 2008. In addition to the International Symposia, Wenner-Gren Foundation sponsored a workshop entitled "The Anthropologists as Social Critic," which was held at the Foundation's offices in New York City.

Initiatives Fundings

Two grants were made under the Initiatives program in 2008. The first went to support the launch of a new anthropology publication, Anthropology Now. The second went to support the Anthropology Section of the New York Academy of Sciences.

Historical Archives Program

Five awardes were made under the Historical Archives Program in 2008, including funding to archive the films and personal research materials of Jorge Preloran

Hunt Postdoctoral Fellows 2008

Ten Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowships were awarded in 2008.

Wadsworth Fellows 2008

Six international scholars were selected to gain doctoral training in Anthropology under the Foundation's Wadsworth African and International Fellowships.
