Programs

A variety of the Foundation's grants support students enrolled in doctoral programs leading to a Ph.D. (or equivalent), including grants for dissertation research. There are also fellowship programs for doctoral students from countries where anthropology is underrepresented and where there are limited resources for educational training.

Dissertation Fieldwork Grants

Dissertation Fieldwork Grants for up to $20,000 are awarded to individuals enrolled in a doctoral program to support dissertation research.  Applicants applying for this grant can also elect to apply for a supplemental $5,000 through the Osmundsen Initiative. Applicants must be engaged in research that contributes to anthropological knowledge. Applicants of any nationality or country of residence may apply.

Wadsworth International Fellowships

Wadsworth International Fellowships provide funds to support study leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in anthropology. Fellowships are made for amounts up to $17,500 per year with the possibility of renewal for a total of four years of funding. Applicants must be from countries where anthropology is underrepresented and where there are limited resources to send students overseas for training.

The Wadsworth African Fellowships

Wadsworth African Fellowships provide funds to support African students wishing to study anthropology (including biological anthropology and archaeology) at a South African university. Fellowships are made for amounts up to $17,500 per year with the possibility of renewal for a total of four years of funding.  

Wadsworth Short-Term Fellowships

Wadsworth Short-Term Fellowships are available for up to three months to support doctoral students or postdoctoral scholars to consult libraries or take advantage of educational training opportunities that are unavailable in the applicant's home country. Fellowships are made for up to $5,000 and are non-renewable. Applicants must be both citizens and residents of countries where anthropology is underrepresented and where there are limited resources for educational training.
