Troubleshooting Online Application Submissions

There are several technical facotrs that may pose problems for applicants trying to work through the Foundation's online application submission process. Listed below are the most common problems (and their likely solution).

Where is the link to submit my application online?

The link to the online application says "Page Not Found."

I keep getting a "Page Cannot Display" error.

I can't find the application I saved online.

Why can't I change font or use "Bold," "Italics," or "Underline" in my responses?

Make sure your browser is up-to-date


I have checked the Wenner Gren website and cannot find any link to submit my grant application online.

If you cannot find the link on the foundation's website to submit your application form online, please consult the “Online Application Submission” instructions (on the last page of the application form), which provides the current URL needed to submit your application materials online.

I have copied and pasted the URL from the application form into my web browser, but I get a “Page Not Found” error.

Please compare the URL you cut-and-pasted to the URL in the application form. Many times an operating system's cut-and-paste feature will insert additional characters into the string as a safety precaution that invalidates the link. Remove the extra characters, or enter the URL into your browser by hand, and you should be able to access the online submission website.

I filled out the application form and want to submit it online, but when I click the link (or enter the URL by hand), I cannot open the page. I keep getting a "Page cannot be displayed" error message.

Most problems with accessing the Online Submission website involve “tracking cookies” in your web browser, which are providing conflicting information that has to be cleared.

  • If using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, please “delete browser history.”
  • If using Mozilla's Firefox, please “clear personal data.”
  • If using Apple's Safari browser, please “clear history.”

Once the browser history has been cleared, close and re-open your browser and try to access the online submission website. If you still cannot access the website, please contact the foundation's Applications Office for further assistance.

I began the online submission process, and established a user account, then saved my application to come back to later, but now I don't see it.

It's possible you may have temporarily lost your Internet connection while saving your application submission, in which case you should begin a new application submission and re-enter the required information before attaching and submitting your application materials. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, but believe re-submitting is the best way to ensure you are submitting (and that the foundation receives) your most up-to-date application form.


Why can't I change font or use "Bold," "Italics," or "Underline" in my responses?

Due to formatting limitations, Wenner-Gren Application Forms are restricted to using Ariel 10pt font, and do not accept bold, italics, or underline formatting.  If you compose answers to the application’s various Project Questions and Budget Description in another font or program, your responses will be converted to Ariel 10pt font without formatting when copied-and-pasted into the application form.  Please plan your responses accordingly.
