Requirements and Conditions of Conference and Workshop Grants

If a Conference or Workshop Grant is awarded to you, you will be subject to the following requirements and conditions and asked to sign this statement as a legally binding agreement. Please read it carefully.

1. Scope of Grant:  Funds may not be expended for purposes other than those for which the award was made, as stated in the application.  The organizer may not substantially modify the theme, organization, time and duration of the meeting or participants supported by the award without securing prior permission from the Foundation.

    2. Return of Funds:  Any funds that are used for purposes other than those approved by the Foundation or that remain unexpended at the termination of the conference or workshop must be returned to the Foundation.  The total amount of the award must be returned if the meeting is not held within a reasonable time after acceptance of the funds.

    3. Reporting Requirements:

          a.    After the conference or workshop, the organizer must submit a brief report (one or two pages) describing the goals, proceedings, and results of the meeting, along with a list of participants and their paper titles or a copy of the program.  We also request that an abstract of 200 words be e-mailed to the Foundation for publication on its website (

          b.   The organizer must provide a detailed financial accounting for all funds provided by the Foundation.  No receipts are required.

          c.    The reporting materials are due three months after the meeting.

    4. Publication Requirements: The Wenner-Gren Foundation requests acknowledgment of Foundation support in all publications resulting in whole or in part from this grant.  One copy of each publication resulting from the grant should be sent to the Foundation, with the name of the grantee, the grant number, and a full bibliographic citation in Current Anthropology format. 

      5. Permission:   To the extent that the grantee provides to the Foundation any photograph, film or other materials created in connection with the project, the Foundation may use these materials for any purpose related to the Foundation’s activities, including posting such materials on its website.  The Foundation may use the grantee’s name, description of the research project, name/s of organization/s with which he/she is associated, and any photograph of him/her for any purpose relating to the Foundation’s activities.   

        6. Wenner-Gren Grants are made in accordance with all laws applicable in the United States of America, including but not limited to the provisions of the USA Patriot Act.  Grant funds may not be used by any grantee for any purposes that would be in violation of regulations governed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Asset Controls.  The grantee confirms compliance with any applicable U.S. sanctions regulations including regulations pertaining to the Specially Designated Nationals List (SDN List).  For further information on the regulations, please consult the U.S. Department of Treasury website at:
