Organizers: Richard G. Fox and Les Field
1:45 – 3:30 PM Room: Continental Parlor 1
As a follow-up to the Wenner-Gren International Symposium Volume “Anthropology Put to Work” (Berg Press, 2007), the Foundation has sponsored this International Forum which brings together scholars to discuss how anthropology has been changing over the past decades and examine the forces from inside and outside of the discipline that are restructuring the way we do anthropology today, challenging any simple dichotomies between applied and basic research. The discussion is organized to look at the experience in different parts of the world with papers from Kirsten Hastrup (Denmark), Andrew Spiegel (South Africa); Joe Watkins (USA); Amrit Srinivasan (India) and Esteban Krotz (Mexico).
