The Wenner-Gren Foundation held over twenty international symposia, sponsored conferences, and workshops in the 1990s at various locations throughout Europe, North America, and South American.
Among the more inflential of these meetings included "AIDS Research: Issues for Anthropological Theory, Method, and Practice" organized by Gilbert Herdt; "The Politics of Reproduction" organized by Rayna Rapp and Faye Ginsburg; "Great Apes Revisited," organized by William McGrew and Toshisada Nishida; and a series of workshops on "Preserving the Anthropological Record," organized by Foundation President Sydel Silverman, Nancy Parezo, and Don Fowler, which led to the founding of the Council for the Preservation of Anthropological Records (CoPAR).
