Dr. Nira Alperson-Afil is a senior lecturer at the Martin (Szusz) Department of Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology at Bar-Ilan University. She specializes in prehistoric archaeology and in particular the Lower Palaeolithic of the Levant.
She started her studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1994 with a BA in Archaeology and Ancient Near East studies following an MA in Prehistoric Archaeology. Her PhD thesis was nominated Summa Cum Laude and focused on the issue of early fire use during the Lower Palaeolithic. The use of fire is but one of her research interests which all attempt to gain insight into the technological and cultural world of our ancient ancestors.
