Closing the Health Equity Gap in India

The presentation deals with the liminal terrain between health and disability focusing on the intersections and disjunctions between these domains. Given the dominance of the medical model the presentation tried to bridge the historical  fractiousness by highlighting the need for the profession of medicine and civil society movements particularly the health rights and disability rights movements to create a platform of discussion and an agenda of action to address the overall health concerns of persons with disabilities with particular reference to the Indian context.. The presentation emphasized the need for a more open engagement between disability and medicine in order to address the often neglected health needs of this marginalised group.
