The Foundation has convened almost 150 international symposia on topical issues in anthropology. The themes chosen reflect the diversity of the discipline, and scholars from across the globe have participated. These symposia have led to a number of landmark publications and continue to be published as supplementary issues of the journal, Current Anthropology.

Since the 1950's the Foundation has convened more than 130 symposia on topics of broad interest to anthropology. These symposia involve a small group of invited scholars who meet for intensive discussion and debate.
