Preliminary abstract: The International Symposium proposed to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the Indian Anthropological Society will have the following dual objectives :1) To eveluate the contributions of anthropologists : Euro-American, Afro-Asian, and Latin American in the light of dualism : Western vs. non-Western, that pervades the field of anthropology. 2) To evaluate the contributions of intellectuals, social thinkers, and literary figures toward anthropology in the Indian contexts.

'Ethnografeast III' brought together a group of field-based anthropologists and sociologists to address the relationship between ethnography and the public sphere. Questions raised by this relationship go beyond classical discussions about 'applied' or other research whose 'usefulness' is understood strictly in instrumental terms.

This conference brought together a diverse group of researchers, representing anthropology, medicine and biology, to link their research programs into the broad theme of human life history (LH) evolution. The multi-disciplinary perspective was crucial to examining how LH characteristics link diverse species such as fruit flies and rodents to primate and human
LH evolution.

'8th Conference of the European Society for Oceanists: Exchanging Knowledge in Oceania'

The 'Exchanging Knowledge in Oceania' meetings aimed to address a nexus of important contemporary questions, with the objective of rethinking the relations, roles, reciprocities, and responsibilities of academics working and wishing to work in Oceania.

Preliminary abstract: This interdisciplinary workshop seeks to bring together representatives of different disciplines (anthropology, archaeology, history, philosophy, sociology, economics) who have thought about/discussed/ analysed concepts/phenomena pertaining to techniques and technology, and invite them to discuss the relevance and possibilities of establishing some degree of comparability between these different fields.

Preliminary abstract: The workshop will bring together about a dozen anthropologists currently conducting research on culture and cancer in diverse regions of the world. The purpose of the workshop is to provide a forum for exchange of research findings and develop a theoretical framework for anthropological approaches to cancer in global perspective. The aims include fostering mutual learning, collaboration and scholarly publication.
